These are things that I do and links that I use as an SEO on creating new or updating old webpages.

Technical Review

1st, I validate your website to make sure the XHTML and CSS are error free.
(See W3C Markup Validation Service).
Next, I test your site to make sure that it appears correctly in different browsers.
I use a text browser such as Lynx to examine your site, because most search engine spiders see your site much as Lynx Viewer would.
If things such as JavaScript and Flash keep you from seeing all of your site in a text browser, then search engine spiders may have trouble crawling your site. Because of this, I recommend not using them or only using them when nothing else will do the job.
When all of these issues are cleared, then I create the XML site map and the robots.txt files.
This is when we work together to optimize your keywords or keyword phrases.
Once the website is done to our satifaction, then I submit it to several search engines.

This site is good for many things but the "Develop" section has a "Keyword Analyzer" that is excellent for testing the Meta Tags on a page. It checks the title tag, the description, and the keywords for relevancy. The "Web page analysis" gives the size of the page and the load time. It lists the keywords found in the anchors then lists the keyword density.
